A group of bullies led by Yoon Gwi-nam from Hyosan High School attack fellow student Lee Jin-su, who recently attempted suicide. Jin-su falls off the rooftop and is hospitalized. His father, Lee Byeong-chan, the science teacher from Hyosan High, realizes Jin-su has developed zombie-like behavior and kills him. Some time later at Hyosan High, student Kim Hyeon-ju is bitten by a hamster infected with a virus in Byeong-chan's science lab. Byeong-chan locks Hyeon-ju inside the lab's interior room for days before she escapes, having becoming a zombie. As staff and students try to help her, Hyeon-ju suddenly bites the school's nurse, who also becomes a zombie right after Hyeon-ju's departure to the hospital. She attacks several students, who all become infected and start an outbreak at the school.
2"Episode 2"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
As more zombies wreak havoc at Hyosan High and infect many students, childhood friends Nam On-jo and Lee Cheong-san manage to seek refuge in a classroom with eleven other classmates from Class 2-5, consisting of class president Choi Nam-ra, ex-delinquent Lee Su-hyeok, Cheong-san's best friend Han Gyeong-su, On-jo's best friend Yoon I-sak, top student Oh Jun-yeong, affluent Lee Na-yeon, choir member Kim Ji-min, reclusive Seo Hyo-ryung, obese Yang Dae-su, Dae-su's best friend Jang Woo-jin, and student Kim Min-ji. A teacher hides inside the classroom, but he is already infected and kills Min-ji, forcing the rest of the students to flee and fight their way towards an empty science lab. I-sak, however, becomes infected and is thrown out the window, to On-jo's despair. Meanwhile, Gwi-nam hides in the cafeteria's kitchen, the school's archery team returns to discover the school overrun by zombies, and senior students Yoo Jun-seong, Lee Ha-lim and Park Mi-jin are trapped in a restroom. At the hospital, Hyeon-ju infects several other patients and medical staff, which leads to the virus gradually spreading throughout Hyosan.
3"Episode 3"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
After escaping to the broadcasting room, the Class 2-5 students find English teacher Ms. Park. They fight off another zombie, but Gyeong-su is scratched on his wrist. Na-yeon accuses him of being infected, belittles him for being on welfare, and argues for him to be driven out. After they isolate Gyeong-su into a corner room, Na-yeon rubs a handkerchief stained with zombie blood on his wound (while pretending to help him stop the bleeding), causing Gyeong-su to transform and attack the survivors, who threw him off the window. As the students condemn Na-yeon for murdering Gyeong-su, Na-yeon runs away and is chased by the zombies. Ms. Park heads out to rescue her, but is killed. Meanwhile, after Ha-lim's death, Mi-jin and Jun-seong were joined by the archery team's two survivors – Woo-jin's sister Jang Ha-ri and her friend Jung Min-jae – in the restroom, while Gwi-nam escapes from the kitchen. Simultaneously, the military is called in as the government imposes martial law, evacuating the surviving residents and locking Hyosan down. Cheong-san's mother goes to the school, concerned for his safety. On-jo's firefighter father Nam So-ju and his team are hiding in a government facility with Hyosan's Assemblywoman Park Eun-hee and her associates.
4"Episode 4"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
After police detective Song Jae-ik arrests the fugitive Byeong-chan and brings him into custody for creating the virus, Byeong-chan recounts that he was angered at the school's indifference towards the bullies who frequently abused his son. He created a virus in attempt to make his son stronger, only to see it develop into a zombie virus. Out of regret for engineering the outbreak, Byeong-chan tells Jae-ik that his laptop at the school's science lab contains all the data relating to his research. An infected horde swarms the police station. Byeong-chan is infected, but Jae-ik and his junior Jeon Ho-chul escape. Meanwhile, Su-hyeok and Cheong-san attempt to retrieve a functioning mobile phone from another classroom, but are separated by the zombies. Su-hyeok returns alone to the broadcasting room with the phone while Cheong-san hides in the principal's room, where he witnesses Gwi-nam killing the principal. He flees, with Gwi-nam chasing him. In the outside world, So-ju evacuates the government's survivors and they board a helicopter.
5"Episode 5"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
Gwi-nam and Cheong-san fight in the infested school library. Cheong-san blinds Gwi-nam in the left eye, throws him into the horde, and escapes. As Gwi-nam is devoured, he vows revenge against Cheong-san. Jun-yeong and On-jo retrieve a flying drone from the science lab, which they use to find Cheong-san hiding in a music room. They send the drone outside the school and are distraught to see the destruction. Ji-min sees her infected parents in their family truck and attempts suicide. Meanwhile, the restroom survivors – Jun-seong, Mi-jin, Min-jae and Ha-ri – enter the school's nursery, before heading for the archery training center to use an emergency phone to call for help. In the outside world, while they are trying to reach Hyosan High, Jae-ik and Ho-chul seek refuge in a fried chicken restaurant (which coincidentally belongs to Cheong-san's mother), where they find a Hyosan High schoolgirl named Park Hee-su, who is infected and tied at the door, with Hee-su's healthy newborn baby safely placed on a far-away bench. Jae-ik rescues the baby despite Ho-chul's objections. Simultaneously, So-ju and his group reach a military quarantine zone. Gwi-nam survives, but in a half-zombified state, and seeks revenge against Cheong-san.
6"Episode 6"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
The students use the broadcasting system to inform Cheong-san that they are coming for him. They use music to distract the zombies while they leave for the music room. Gwi-nam, who heard the broadcast, goes after the group to murder Cheong-san. At the staircase, he encounters Su-hyeok, who had stayed behind to fight the zombies. Su-hyeok refuses to give up Cheong-san, so Gwi-nam attacks him. Nam-ra joins the fight and is bitten by Gwi-nam before she and Su-hyeok push him out a window. Like Gwi-nam, Nam-ra does not immediately transform. Cheong-san, who earlier witnessed Gwi-nam being bitten, argues for her to be killed despite Su-hyeok's insistence that Gwi-nam was not a zombie when he bit Nam-ra. Nam-ra stays by a window, ready to jump if she turns; Su-hyeok stays by her side. Nam-ra gradually enters a half-zombified state and has an urge to bite Su-hyeok, but regains control of herself. After they argue about the potential risk of Nam-ra's situation, the students use a camera to record their last words in case they don't make it out alive. Unknown to them, inside the adjacent PTA room (which is well-stocked with food and water), Na-yeon is alive, hiding from the zombies. The restroom survivors fight their way out and enter the archery training center, but Jun-seong is wounded. At the chicken restaurant, Jae-ik and Ho-chul save a young girl named Se-bin from the pursuing horde. So-ju breaks out of the quarantine zone and heads for the school.
7"Episode 7"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
Nam-ra and Su-hyeok confess their feelings and share a kiss. As time passes, Nam-ra exhibits heightened senses of hearing, vision and smell as she dives further into a half-zombified state; On-jo assumes that Nam-ra is possibly immune to the virus. The students make noise to attract zombies from the corridor into the room while making their escape through the now-empty corridor. They get to the rooftop but the door is locked by Kim Chul-soo, a bullying victim of Gwi-nam, because of Chul-soo's hatred against the school for treating him as an outcast. As the zombies follow the students on the staircase leading to the rooftop, Su-hyeok and Cheong-san fight them off. Cheong-san finds himself face-to-face with Gwi-nam, who appears unaffected by the fall earlier on. The restroom survivors plan to flee to the mountain behind the school's construction site, and they improvise a stretcher to carry the injured Jun-seong out while escaping, but the stretcher breaks, forcing them to once again flee into the center. In the outside world, So-ju arms himself with a shotgun and ammunition he retrieves from the police station's armoury and continues on his way to Hyosan High, while both Jae-ik, Ho-chul, Se-bin, and the baby successfully escape the infested streets on a motorcycle. Upon seeing a survivor hiding on a kindergarten's rooftop, Jae-ik tries to rescue the man. Ho-chul is scared off by zombies and drives away on the motorcycle with Se-bin and the baby, to Jae-ik's anger.
8"Episode 8"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
After Nam-ra throws Gwi-nam down the stairs, the survivors continue to knock at the door, which finally opens. However, they are too late as a military helicopter has left with Chul-soo, whom they assumed to be the school's sole survivor. The students make an SOS distress sign in case another helicopter arrives. The restroom survivors, who also saw the helicopter, contemplate on whether to go to the rooftop when Jun-seong suddenly tells the remaining three to leave him behind as he would slow them down. In the outside world, as So-ju continues on his way to Hyosan High to save On-jo, Jae-ik chats with the man he saved. The man reveals he is a YouTuber nicknamed "Orangibberish" who came to Hyosan to livestream any footages of the infected to dispel any nationwide rumours regarding the zombie crisis (and also to gain more subscribers). Jae-ik reprimands him for unnecessarily putting himself in danger. Just then, Ho-chul and the two children returns to the kindergarten inside a schoolbus. Both Jae-ik and Orangibberish jump onto the top of the bus as it drives off. They make their way through Hyosan and pick up Min Eun-ji, a seemingly uninfected Hyosan High student (also an outcast and victim of Gwi-nam's bullying). Unknown to them, Eun-ji is also in a half-zombified state. They are soon picked up by the military. At the school, during the night, the two different survivor groups bond separately. For the restroom survivors, Ha-ri teaches Mi-jin archery and they talk about their futures. The rooftop survivors gather around a campfire and talk about their pasts. Na-yeon decides to bring the rooftop survivors some food after recalling her mistakes and Ms. Park's sacrifice, to atone for Gyeong-su's murder. However, Gwi-nam kills Na-yeon upon seeing her, and ambushes the rooftop survivors.
9"Episode 9"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
Just when Gwi-nam is about to kill Cheong-san, Nam-ra throws Gwi-nam off the roof. Just then, a military helicopter arrives to rescue the survivors. Earlier on, due to Jae-ik's tip-off about Byeong-chan's laptop, the soldiers were tasked to retrieve the laptop and also to help any remaining survivors from Hyosan High. As the soldiers obtain the laptop and are about to get the students onto the helicopter however, they receive last-minute orders to treat any survivors as asymptomatic and abandon them, due to an on-camp incident where Eun-ji suddenly turned aggressive and killed Chul-soo. The soldiers reluctantly leave the rooftop survivors behind, much to their mutual distress. At the quarantine zone, Eun-hee is interrogated for abetting So-ju's escape from the quarantine zone, but she, touched by So-ju's love for his daughter, willingly takes full responsibility and prioritises the welfare of her Hyosan constituents. The soldiers and scientists, having studied both Eun-ji and a fully-zombified soldier, decide to further quarantine the surviving Hyosan residents to detect any asymptomatic people due to their uncertainty of the virus's incubation period. At Hyosan High, it begins to rain and thunder, which impairs the zombies' hearing and vision. Both the rooftop survivors and the restroom survivors notice the zombies' weakness and thus, both groups attempt to make use of it to escape to the mountain. As the rooftop survivors reach the ground floor first and enter the parking lot, Cheong-san is shocked to see his mother, now as a zombie, standing in front of him behind a truck.
10"Episode 10"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
Distraught at his mother's death, Cheong-san punches his classmates for assaulting his zombified mother. Cheong-san's cries attract the attention of the nearby zombies, and the rooftop survivors flee. They become separated during the escape, with Nam-ra, Su-hyeok and On-jo struggling to get the distraught Cheong-san to move while the rest, led by Dae-su, run through the woods. Hyo-ryung falls down and Ji-min, who is scared off by a nearby zombie, leaves her behind. As Ji-min tries to follow the others, she gets lost and is killed in the school's football field. Meanwhile, Hyo-ryung is rescued by Woo-jin. He is reunited with Ha-ri, who rescued him as she led the restroom survivors through the woods. Together with Cheong-san's group and the restroom survivors, Woo-jin and Hyo-ryung (who injured her leg during the fall) reunites with Dae-su's group, and they all gather at the school's auditorium. Immediately after they enter the hall, Nam-ra, who can now sense zombies due to her half-zombified state, orders everyone to run to the auditorium's sports equipment room. During the horde's attack, Min-jae escapes from the auditorium and into the woods, while Jun-seong sacrifices himself to save Mi-jin, who is forcibly taken by the others into the sports equipment room, where they take shelter and mourn those they lost. The next day, the two different groups interact with each other and they quickly bond. Dae-su confesses his affections for Ha-ri, who is not impressed and beats him up for it. Later, the survivors formulate a plan to use the sports equipment and metal carts to form a barricade to surround themselves while making their way out of the hall. As they carry out the plan, the zombie horde attacks them and Jun-yeong dies. Just as the zombies are about to overwhelm the barricade, the door suddenly opens and On-jo sees her father, who finally reached the school, standing outside. Meanwhile, the military and scientists analyse the data in Byeong-chan's laptop, and after the experts predict that the zombie epidemic might endanger whole South Korea, the military decides to bomb Hyosan in order to prevent the virus from spreading to other parts of the country.
11"Episode 11"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
After reuniting with her father, On-jo and her friends escape, with So-ju leading the way. As they make their way to the school's tennis court, the group encounters a large zombie group. Using the flares and whistle, So-ju distracts the zombies and diverts their attention from the students, who all get out. However, So-ju, who was bitten while trying to distract the horde, stays behind and locks the tennis court's gates as he gets devoured. On-jo is distraught at her father's sacrifice and the group drag her along while fleeing. They finally reach the school's construction site and stay on the building's unfinished balcony. By then, Nam-ra feels a stronger urge to bite her friends, and not willing to hurt them, she thus bites her left wrist hard. Su-hyeok, who witnesses it, calms Nam-ra down, reassuring that he will let her bite him if she has the urge the next time. Min-jae, who is revealed to be alive and inside the archery training center, is attacked and tortured by Gwi-nam, who demands Cheong-san's location. After being told that their last location was at the auditorium, Gwi-nam kills Min-jae and follows the group's scent to where they went. Meanwhile, the military discovers the zombies are attracted by sound and use drones to attract the zombies in Hyosan to their selected bombing locations, including Hyosan High. With her sharp sense of hearing, Nam-ra hears the military helicopters announcing to any surviving Hyosan residents to evacuate underground before the bombing starts, much to the others' horror. Just as they are preparing to flee, Gwi-nam suddenly appears and attacks Cheong-san, biting and assaulting him. Due to the drones' sound, Gwi-nam is temporarily distracted and Cheong-san pushes him off the building. Seeing that he was going to turn, Cheong-san kisses On-jo and gives her his nametag, before he enters the building to distract the zombies, allowing the rest to escape from the construction site safely. While Cheong-san gets into a final standoff with Gwi-nam, the military bombs the designated locations, killing off most of the zombies. Cheong-san and Gwi-nam also die in the bombing. Out of regret for commanding the bombing, the military commander commits suicide.
12"Episode 12"January 28, 2022 (2022-01-28)
The survivors spend the night in the woods before moving on. On-jo seeks comfort from both Su-hyeok and Nam-ra over Cheong-san's death. They reach an abandoned neighborhood, where Nam-ra senses some surviving zombies. Led by Nam-ra, the students attempt to escape further into the neighborhood, but Dae-su's leg injury from the bombing has slowed them down, forcing them to fight off the zombies. Woo-jin is bitten while trying to save Ha-ri, resulting in Nam-ra killing him. Nam-ra increasingly feels an urge to eat her friends and hears voices in her head telling her to do so. Not willing to endanger them, Nam-ra leaves the group. After noticing that she is missing, Su-hyeok and On-jo find her feeding on a zombie's corpse. Nam-ra temporarily becomes fully zombified and attacks On-jo, trying to bite her before she regains her senses. Out of remorse for nearly killing On-jo, Nam-ra abandons Su-hyeok and On-jo and disappears in the neighbourhood. The remaining six survivors encounter a military rescue team, who brings them into the quarantine camps. After three months, the government ends the martial law in Hyosan, but continues to quarantine the residents for precautionary measures. Longing to see Nam-ra again, the six survivors sneak out of the camp and return to the destroyed Hyosan High, where they find a campfire lit on the rooftop. Nam-ra, who looks well and healthy despite remaining as a half-zombie, meets up with them and reminisces about their past times while reaffirming her friendships. Nam-ra says there are a few others like her who escaped from the school and, after sensing that "they are back", Nam-ra informs the group she will be back before jumping down the rooftop, leaving the others staring after her.
